What is 3D Scanning?

3D scanning is a non-contact metrology technique that uses structured blue light or laser to capture millions of surface points from a physical component, building a high-density digital "point cloud" and 3D mesh. That digital twin is then overlaid against the original CAD model to measure deviation across the entire surface - including complex freeform geometry, internal features, and organic shapes that traditional touch-probe tools cannot reach.
